NELSON Mandela Bay students who passed matric with flying colours in the 2013 Academic Year and want to study further but lack the financial means to do so, should not despair, according to Mongameli Peter, the local secretary of the Motsepe Development Forum.

The Forum is a local development arm of the mining magnate, Patrice Motsepe’s Foundation, a national body aimed at assisting poor communities transform their lives through education.

“We want those students who passed matric but have no means to study further. Preference will be given to those who want to study in the area of scarce skills like Physics, Maths, Accounting, Information Technology (IT), Engineering and Business Studies among others, “ said Peter.

Nondumiso Rubushe, the Forum’s Education Convenor, said the funding, which can be applied for until Tuesday 21 January 2014, will address the academic needs of those students who have already been accepted to study at any tertiary institution in the country.

“We are racing against time. Those who want to apply should get the forms at their schools, or from the Department of Education in the Ethel Valentine Building or at the Uitenhage District Offices,” said Rubushe.

Rubushe said those students with access to the internet can download the forms through the website: www.motsepefoundation.org, adding that the forum had also urged local municipalities to assist with the downloading of forms.

According to Rubushe, a certified copy of the Grade 12 academic record or results, a motivation letter from their principal or councillor and an affidavit that confirms the financial need from a parent or legal guardian must be submitted with the application form.

Those who qualified would be notified after thorough screening by the Education Sector Committee and the adjudication by the Funding Committee after 21 January.
